A Brisbane man has been jailed after fatally shooting a woman when startled by her nunchucks-wielding partner while trying to rob their home.

Stafford Anthony Emmerson, 43, was sentenced to nine years' imprisonment on Wednesday after a Supreme Court jury earlier found him guilty of manslaughter but not guilty of murder.

The trial had been told Emmerson fired a sawn-off rifle into a shipping container home on a rural property south of Brisbane, killing 40-year-old Megan Kirley.

He had gone there with others in the early hours of February 9, 2019 in two cars for a robbery and get "money for drugs".

When the group tried to open the container home's door that was slightly ajar, Ms Kirley's partner Pieter Pickering jumped out swinging wooden nunchucks.

Emmerson had been pointing the gun at the door and said he fired it because he was scared, crown prosecutor Dejana Kovac told the jury.

The group fled with Mr Pickering in pursuit.

He returned to find Ms Kirley crumpled over the side of their bed.

He performed CPR but Ms Kirley died from wounds to her head and neck from a single bullet that had splintered.

Four others have appeared in court over the killing.

Parole was not declared for Emmerson, who has spent 1236 days in pre-sentence custody.

Cameron Lindsay Witoko, Emma Louise Hinds - a mother of three and grandmother of a four-year-old - as well as Kobi Daniel Oram were each previously sentenced to nine years' jail after all pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Geoffrey Dale Granz Glenn, who has also pleaded guilty to manslaughter, is due to be sentenced on August 18.
